Aspartame in Diet Soda turns into Formaldehyde?

Welcome to the 1st post of Breaking "Bad Science" One Claim At A Time! Our very first claim is Aspartame turning into formaldehyde in our body. Sounds scary to some, lets look at the science of it...

Not too many people know, but our body turns many things to formaldehyde. This is a part of our normal metabolism, and you produce more formaldehyde in apple juice, orange juice, and other items than a diet soda. Many people who claim that aspartame is bad, would throw this claim of formaldehyde as a scare tactic; but if you talk to a biologist or an organic chemist, you'll find out that it's safer than anything else.

It's good to be skeptical of all claims. Don't take my word for it, if you have any questions in regards to these claims, please ask a biologist or an organic chemist.

  1. This blog is desperately needed! How about drafting members to write posts for it? I'll volunteer. I'm sure many of our skeptical, science-minded friends would, too. Email me and I'll send you my facebook contact info. cannedam gmail :)
